UNIBASE Telecom operates a number of WWW caching proxy servers. A proxy
server is one which performs as a standin. When your web browser requests a
page of information from the network, it passes its request to one of our proxy
servers which actually performs the retrieval from the network, and in turn
passes it along back to your web browser to display the information on your
screen.
A caching server is one which retains a copy of the
pages it retrieves. On subsequent requests for the same page, it already has
the requested pages, and only needs to retrieve them again if something has
changed.
UNIBASE subscribers can improve their delivery performance significantly
by using one of our caching proxy servers. If the page you are
requesting is already on our server, it gets delivered to your browser quicker
because it does not need to travel through the network again. The proxy server
always checks to ensure no changes have been made to any of the information
being sent to you... so the information you get is always up to date.
In order to use one of thecaching proxy servers operated
at UNIBASE, you must tell your browser. Directions to assist you in this task
are provided.
